View Full Version : death of a tree

A leaf flutters and spins in the doorway,
like a moth in a campfire.
Crumbling against deep velvet curtains,
it falls to the bare floor of waxed to glass, vineared hardwood.
A browning corpse of an ancient watcher.
A fallen teacher, an unremembered hero of the lost and lonely.
I mourn for you and for my memories in your branches,
I forgive you for my broken ankle years healed.
as the neighbors complain you block their view
the chainsaw and the woodchipper are your reaper
I pray you spread your seeds.

<sigh> one less tree, passing without notice save for this poem.

hah! i wonder what the view was that the tree was blocking! (no, don't tell me, please).
have you ever heard a tree screaming? one winter a friend was cutting wood to make a fire for me; he said the tree was dead.
it wasn't.
nice work,
:)

Quite an interesting take on this - I like the conversational quality, especially in 'forgiving' the tree for your injury. Nice imaginative piece e.e., much enjoyed.

thank you for your comments,
no,I've not yet heard a tree scream,
but I have heard them whine,
and once I heard one giggle at me for stepping in a puddle.

so sad and mournful, as with any deep loss, it grieves the soul.
You have captured the depths of despair.

i know you don't wanna know laleesh, but I'll tell you anyway.
The tree was blocking their view of the mountain.
They said it was quote, "a gross ugly tree, and we want to see the forest on the side of the mountain when we do our tai-chi in the morning." Damn them and their irony.

I was just surfing the net and came accross this forum.
I had to stop and take time to register so that I could say what a pleasure it was to have stumbled accross this site and get the chance to read your poem.
The death of trees is always a sad thing indeed, especially so that someone can excercise with a view.
