Her translucent body
shimmers tawny excitement as she
courses along Beach's edge.

But her visit is all too brief, as she
is pulled back to her home by demanding Current.

She waves goodbye to her sandy friend,
and slowly settles back into the stillness of her core

alone.

Her pallor shifts to a moody blue,
until she ripples herself free for
another visit to the shore.

rippling herself free - wonderful imagery you painted with words. that last stanza is quite beautiful, really well done throughout.

Thank you ascension; this is one of my few favorites of mine. It came out of a discussion with a friend who recently moved to Michigan. He mentioned how the lake water is an intense clear blue right up until it gets near the beach, when the brown sand's color peeks through. The poem kind of wrote itself from there.

Thanks mb - I always appreciate it when the efforts that go into details being noticed.

Lala, a response poem, huh? Cool. Now I have to dig up an oldie to write back:

Her undulating waves caress the beach
and her evaporated water feeds land beyond reach,
but her mist is enigma...
are they tears of a friend who cannot stay,
or wet warning spewed to keep foes away?

She draws men in with fluid charm,
betiding to the arrogant harm,

reflecting the might of her Father’s arm.

Aww, Bethany, I bow to your comment. Thank you.

What a treat, Bryan! Bravo! In your words she seems serene, although we know very well what violence she is capable of.

She waves goodbye to her sandy friend
Nice play on 'waves'. :)

Hey bro, the ocean whispers her own poetry... I'm just a hydro-plagiarist ;). Thanks.

Many thanks Ghostrain. I liked that part the best myself.

Nanna, yeah she does throw some awful tantrums, doesn't she? :D Thank you for the reply, and the pickup on waves. :)

I enjoyed reading this very much, the symbolism of your words in the description made me read it over again.
I love watching the blue sea, unfortunately in the Bristol Channel it is a muddy colour and looks like a very liquid clay sloshing about.

I am glad, Ben, to see that you enjoyed this a few times. Thank you for seeing and commenting on the symbolism.
unfortunately in the Bristol Channel it is a muddy colour It's the same here in New Jersey; mainly a murky green tint. The description of the colors mainly came from talking with a friend who recently moved to Michigan, near the Great Lakes, whose water is deep clear blue up to the coast, where the light brown of the rocks below shines through.

Ivor, having read your high esteem for the fair lady of the sea, I thank you greatly for that comment. She is a wonder.

Thank you ascension. Anytime I hear that one of my poems has gotten several reads, it makes me feel good.

Thank you TRex. I'm glad that the smaller details that go into a poem are appreciated. The amazing thing is, no matter how much I write about nature, there is always something else to see/hear/etc.
