the boreads
bluster by errant

and bold

rude
marauders flanked in cold
rip the leaves off
trembling
trees

gild their gulfbound steeds in gold.

(boreas: the north wind
boreades: boreas' two sons, callais and zetes)

I am fond of all your verse, but I have to say -

I say this is one helluva poem. I love its meter,
I love the words you chose, I love the picture you
painted.

And a perfect night to read it here, with the bora howling out of the north and prying at my door and windows.

actually mike, for days i've been admiring our lovely leafwork and trying to document it in verse but having a lot of trouble in doing so. i had a very static picture of an arc or corona of garnet and gold that just wasn't moving. then here come those cold-blooded ruffians from the north pulling almost all the leaves off my image, tacking them to the breezes and tossing them about on their rip-roaring ride to the smooth, warm gulf.

picture:

that tight little bud, green and clinging,
old and gold now, finally free!
gone in a whirlyride!

way to leave!

thanks so much, mike; you are so encouraging on top of all that talent!

laleesh, I’ve only known one other person who could say so much so beautifully utilizing so few words.

As usual, very nicely penned.

By the way, I'm a huge fan of alliteration and I like the way you use it in "a windfall princely".

Lala, what can I do but add my applause to the previous comments. You always have a great melody to your works; they roll off the tongue. And I appreciate the meaning, especially amplified with the additional information you provided. Yup, this is another favorite. Keep 'em coming.
