The Story Teller
Peeking through the curtains
at the monthly story night
I sense the audience’s mood
the usual curiosity seekers
a few true believers and
one old, old friend
Slipping between red velvet
taking center stage
with my voice heard to the rafters
I bid them all welcome
to hear a new tale of honor, sacrifice and
a journey through time
Quiet reigns as I weave my tale of
a land that outlawed magick
all faerie folk, elves and dwarves
witches, sprites, elementals and creatures
Banished!
How could this be?
we healed the sick
brought the rains and cool breezes
the land and life were balanced
Emissaries from the great houses
could not sway the rulers and
forestall banishment
we were outcasts
to be reviled and hated
I can tell you listeners
the outlook was dark and bleak
until an old legend came to mind
a gateway to be opened only
during time of great trial and peril
Innanna, a priestess schooled in many arts and
student of history came forth with a plan
an old map showed the way to
a gateway sealed for eons and
she knew the keys of passage
We made ready for banishment
only this was of our creation
preparing for the leave taking
when sun and moon were one
And so ends part one of my tale
I bid you safe journey home
Beware of things that go bump
until next time…
Farewell
Leaving the stage, I find him waiting
a look of admonishment in his eyes
he tells me I could never leave
well enough alone!
Smiling, I agree with him
on my way to feed Spike and Spur
a mischievous look sparkling in my eye and
that’s the start for next month’s story night
