I walked into the club with a sheet over my head, gloves on my hand, needles in my heart, slippers on my feet.

Shuffle, shuffle. shuffle, through the sea of faulty promises. My eyes drag behind me like an umbilical cord.

I held the beautifully wrapped package in my hand, the red of the ribbons twisted around the moon and I muster out the words, "It’s uncalled for really."

Glimmer, glimmer, glimmer up the stairs to my front door. He stares after me like I’m made of silver, a trophy of his unattainable affections.

I’m done for the night. I’m done for the day. The veins stand out like highways along this wrist. I want to curl up like a fetus, crawl back in the womb, and feel the vibrations of some other life.
