The gentle rain tumbles like soft tears
kissing his face, masking the sorrow.
He walks with an untidy struggle,
head bowed against wind that does not blow.

He treads damp memories under foot
stirring the pain, tracing his mistakes.
Old ground brings new reminders of the
final commitment he could not make.

Mournful sky paints a sombre backdrop
dulling his soul, crushing the spirit.
Pictures of her smile tease a dead heart
where passion’s old flame will not be lit.

Each street echoes his doomed happiness
missing the chance, losing his lifeline.
Icy chills freeze his desperation
to share a future that cannot shine.
