**Not exactly a Holiday Poem, but was written with the Holidays in Mind**

I remember flying high in the sky,
For hours, I watched the blue of the sea
Mesh with the blue of the sky.
Clouds of stark white_and shades of grey
Were sliced by the plane's wings.
_
Soon enough, the ocean fades away.
I now see fields of green, roads, and highways.
All sprinkled with a dusting of November snow.
Only two days before, Thanks-giving had been celebrated.
_
I follow an interstate as the plane flies over the states
Of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut,
Travelling along America's eastern coast.
The cars and lorries are like colourful ants
Against the backdrop of black road.
Their destinations are unknown to me, but worth the ride.
_
Someday, I want to travel along that road.
See the surroundings with eyes on level ground,
Not from above.
Experience the crunching sound
Of crisp white snow under my feet
As November gives way to December.
_
The winter season should keep those families,
Packed in their travelling cars,
Inside their homes, warmed by a fire.
Now that autumn and Thanksgiving have passed,
The promise of Christmas and New Year
Will hold them together.
_
No longer looking out side the plane's small window,
With frost touching around its edges,
I look to the right of where I'm sitting,
Along the next three seats
To where my family sits, staying together.
_
As a girl,_I would dream of my wedding,
A family. All were fantasies of life.
Now I'm looking at the world with eyes of a young woman,
Still learning the lessons
That go hand-in-hand with adulthood.
Maternal instincts have developed,
And I yearn for a family of my own.
_
I wish for a child, a daughter.
Someone for me_to share my lessons with,
To spend time with, nurture and love.
To watch her_grow, as my mother had watched me.
To make me feel complete, loved.
Such a heavy responsibility to lie on small shoulders.
_
Children don't realise, at first,
That their parents' hopes and dreams
Are channelled into their children.
To succeed as the_parent had not.
Little do they know that these instincts
Will develop inside of them
As they watch their baby,
That once lay in their arms,
Grow into the adult they help to shape.
_
Looking back over that long flight,
Travelling from a cold England
To the sunny state of Florida,
I made a wish;
For a home warmed by a fire,
Children running riot,
Creating havoc in their wake,
A house full of noise and laughter.
Outside, snow falls and Christmas approaches.

Moonshine,

It's perfectly welcome in here.

I don't normally read longer poems, if they fail to keep my attention.

This kept my hooked, though. It's so vivid.

Thank you Hawk. I rarely write longer poems, for that reason. I like to keep a reader's attention. The impression a poem can make on the mind can have a stronger impact.
