it's sunset on the boulevard
by the gravesides of our broken hearts
and the rich man cries
as his last hope dies
but the world goes past and on
so what if one more soul is gone
it won't hurt our self-esteem or
disturb our aura's pleasant dreams

this is our national debt
the void that haunts our treasury
is found in our humanity

blue screens in the evening
glow as we find our loves online
hiding in a cyberspace
where our lives cannot be traced
we take our masks and if you ask
we're all fine since we found Prozac
and there are a thousand ways to God
that we ourselves have trod

life is our national debt
the void that haunts our treasury
is grown by our humanity

lust is never love and it
never equals loyalty
we play to our own frailty
and act the victim's role with ease
when did responsibility
become a rare commodity
who killed humanity

this is our national debt
the void that haunts our treasury

Shneakers, this was very well written. Sad but true.
