Back roads
The country roads gleam sleekly black and wet
in contrast to the snow on either side.
A white reminder bids us not forget
that winter rules as long as it abides.
For winter can if so inclined.
Bring every road and highway to a halt
Its awesome power cannot be defined
by human minds. Which find it at fault
for thwarting their free passage to and fro.
The race of man can never be content
Unless he feels free to come and go
but winter rules and makes the last comment.
That it will never bow to mans demands
and man must understand; winter commands.
