View Full Version : Childhood's End

Beside a silvery lake that shone like gold.
The child waited, just as he'd been told.

His body shivering, he bowed his head.
He listened to voices, whispering of dead.

His lips were touched in a ghostly kiss.
From a future that was, and a past that is.

His tears ran freely and slipped away.
His pain so glorious, on this day.

Dreaming and being merged just then.
As another boy joined the ranks of men.

So much, so clear, his heart was still.
Another childhood's vision killed.

The truths he knows, his laughing eyes,
his mothers arms, his white cloud skies.

All took new meaning, gained new light.
The boy, the Man, was born this night.

Forever he will pay the cost,
that all boys pay, when childhood's lost.

But when life is done, will be unmasked,
submerging in a silvery, golden, lake,
he will be a voice, a childhood's take.

And so completes the Circle's Arch,
as another childhood's flame goes dark.

I'm not sure what triggered the desire to write this one,
but I must admite it does show my more creative side.
Thanks Dandy :D

Wow. Although, I am not a boy, I often find myself yearning for a childhood I only barely got to experience. This poem is amazing as are many of the other poems here, but yours I truly felt a connection with. It was great...really great, I am new to this whole thing, and i hope that you can value my opinion even though I am young and foolish and may not know as many words, I do still have the ability to comprehend, and thankfully I can also feel. Your poem enlightened both of those sences for me.

spunky, I appreciate those words. I'm not that old myself ( 20 ) and I have not experienced half of the things I should have in my childhood. I lived a sheltered life, still do even. But I have a good sence of what goes on out there, and I still have things yet to experience for myself, but I will always charish my childhood. The memories of when I was most happy, and enjoyed myself with others ended after about 5th Grade. lol Those were some of my best moments.

Blah, blah, blah... Anyway, sorry I was gettin a lil carried away.
Thank you again spunky :)
