If you should meet one in the grass,
hold thy cudgel,
break thy bore;
be still a moment,
and let it pass -
the serpent asks for nothing more.

mb, dreammagic is calling for poems in the holidays forum with a st. patrick's day theme; this one might certainly apply! lol.
anything serpentine i have encountered or that has encountered me
has quickly scooted off in the opposite direction - except for those two water mocassins traveling side by side in a 4-5 foot line that politely slithered over my foot on their way to the woods, bothering no one nor wanting to be bothered by anyone. and my (h)ex-husband who just HAD to bite (scorpio) before slithering back to his grass.
:)

I'll not ask which was the better encounter of the two :)
