riddle,
what a sending be:

those loose
entwining serpent things
that move sans feet and fly
sans wings,
contract and wave
past sloppy seams we stitch
in hope to bind our dreams
but leave us less
than guarded,

take our rest and part it

down the middle?

p.s.

i post this in nature because i really think the things in my dream last night were snakes, and these are potent symbols, ancient and archetypical, of life and transformation, renewal and fertility - all things i associate with spring. (that or some "intruder" trying, effectively, to get my attention)!

and i've noticed a few serpent poems rearing their heads through this and other forums as well.

now, tell me the mother doesn't speak english? :)

laleesh, are you on any strong psychotropic medications? Just kidding.

No wings, but they fly? Hmmm. They’ve yet to visit my dreams. It does, indeed, conjure up an image for me, though. I think that says quite a bit about your ability with imagery. You can make imagery out of pieces and parts of what’s in your brain.

It’s an eerie image. A flying snake, whizzing by. No. Flying snakes flying here and there. Sort of eerie, actually.

The most important passage in the piece is that our dreams do, indeed, “leave us less than guarded.” That is the one truth that I can pull from the piece.

Interesting, dynamic, eerie and I may not want to go to sleep tonight. :)

michael, lol, my drug days are quite over :) ! in my dream there were indeed flying snakes, i think symbolic of dragons. there were swimming snakes, twining snakes around a brilliant chandelier, and baby snakes that I was stomping with my feet.

flying snakes/serpents = dragons = element of air.
swimming snakes = spermatozoa = element of water.

snakes entwined around chandelier = enlightenment, awakening = element of fire

stomping baby snakes = thunder, beating earth to awaken her = element of earth.

it was such a strange dream, i thought much about it - and my conclusion was it was just the energy of spring coursing through me. nothing to fear. in fact, a precious gift!

real sense, i really got into this poem

love the double meaning of "rest"
in the penultimate line

aye, and many other tongues, including the forked variety :)

How'd I miss this one? I love the dream-like imagery. Plus I'm partial to serpents, symbolic, real, or both...

The wise serpent appears to the gifted ones
who bear traces of magic still in this prosaic unbelieving world
