arboreal

wisteria steal
from base to crown
leave the ground in a purple blaze

of sweet and sticky bloom

climbing
kids hear bees
a'buzz
but bliss'ted
bees in their honey glaze
hear nothing
save

om mani padme hum*.

*pure sound,
:)

laleesh, short but sweet (pun most definitely intended).

The title’s relationship to the poem is quite clever. Also, the stand alone “arboreal” introduces the piece appropriately, inducing the reader to want to find out more. Of course, with one of your poems, it doesn’t take long. ;)

By the way, what is the language in the last line – you know, the one that makes it so the kids are fairly lucky in all of this?

Again, nicely concise, wrapped up like a gift. All of your poetry is a gift. Thank you.

michael, om mani padme hum is a buddhist chant used commonly in the practice of meditation. it means many things to many different buddhist sects but, common to all, it is considered "pure sound". and that is the context i use it in in this piece. bees make a sound - kids consider this sound ominous and threatening (some taught so, some have experienced bee stings and the buzz is associate). but to the bee, it's just being (pardon the pun :) ). one man's buzz is another man's hummmmmmmm. hm?

and the wisteria? they are in full bloom here, just "hanging" out all over everything. bee paradise! and they too, to those unfortunate allergy-prone people, are to be dreaded while i, fortunately, look forward to their blooming each spring. they remind me of beautiful crystal chandeliers hanging from the trees. and their beautiful lavender to purple color is breath-taking!
