Come and see

Come walk with me and you shall see beauty,
All of the wonders that can be found around
about the quiet country lanes for free
I will show you wild flowers that abound
half hidden in the grass beneath the trees.
The ancient hedgerows now are in full bloom.
With fragile blossoms sure to please
the most discerning eye and bring relief.
from the drab grey and grimy city streets.
Where you are forced to spend your working days
Simple tranquil scenery that defeats
The man made beauty that the critics praise.
Cynics that know not value only cost
their sense of childish wonder they have lost.

Ivor, I’ve been in awe of your ability for subtle rhyme and seem to mention it at every opportunity. This is no exception. You may do that better than anyone at AC. If not better, as well as anyone.

The imagery in “Come and see” is inviting and, thus, writing the piece as an invitation is apropos.

This passage, with is dichotomy, is a solid set up for the ending of the poem. The alliteration is a very strong depiction of what is to be found in the “city streets.”

The last part of the poem is didactic with a hint of frustration and anger.

I’d rather come with you and view the gardens any day.
