The rain has been plentiful
all summer long
Now, with a chill in the air
it hangs longingly in the saddened clouds.
The trees whisper softly
with each tumbling leaf
circling in the breeze until it touches
softly down
Just about dusk
and crickets chirp their own melody
with harmony from bullfrogs
sulking in a nearby creek
Lights going on
one by one
and the smell of burning leaves
tickles my senses
The soft current of air
caresses my bare shoulders
in a dance only I understand
I can feel it getting closer-
the winter to come
when all life will seem to end.
But for now
the crickets, the breeze, the clouds,
the leaves, the bullfrogs-intermingle
in possibly the last sensious summer night...
and me.

between this lovely piece, mac's ode to spring, and my utter disdain for summer, how i wish we could just drown june in its own misery and slip into your sense of fall!

dying for winder already,

Laleesh- I agree! Lets skip summer! I love nice a warm, but not too warm...spring is good...right into fall! Thanks also to Lilaj, Hawk and Mac! I really appreciate your notes...

First thing I want to do, Quintessence, is welcome you to AC, where it can be any season you want it to be – just at AC.

Second thing I want to do is disagree with you. I’m a summer kind of guy. I just love the heat of summer. I moved from the east coast to the west coast and heat without humidity is wonderful.

Your poem is written well.

The personification that you give to the crickets and bullfrogs – harmonizing – is unique. I really never looked at it, or listened to it that way.

Good read. Hope to read more from you, especially in The Nature Forum. ;)

Thanks for the welcome...Yet I still don't like summer! Actually, it's not that bad if you're inside, but I live near a lake, and it's REALLY humid here...so I'll stick with spring and fall! Thanks...Take care...
