Brief spring

The heat is closing in
spring barely starts
snap of fingers
the greenness of thumb
without fanfare
it abruptly ends
and summer
turns the lovely green
a shade of ugly brown.

mac, i was just thinking of this very thing, the southern summer, simmering (100 degrees in 200 percent of humidity!) in my thoughts, looming, that slow suffocation!
