Acolyte.

The storm is raging now without
But I am safe in my redoubt
Here high above the angry sea.

I tend the light that sailors see
when fog a or darkness cloaks the sea.
The lamp that burns by day and night.

To mariners a welcome sight.
To me it is a sacred rite
I carry out in safety’s name.

Long gone the days of oil fueled flame.
The light still burns though just the same
powered by electricity.

The sea needs no technology
her power limitless and free.
She is not bound by man made laws.

A purely elemental force
who chooses to pursue the course
That best suits her prevailing mood.

But those who sail upon the sea
all treat her most respectfully
And we who man the lights well know

her spiteful rages come and go.
She has a gentler side to show
when on her surface dolphins glide.

I’m glad today I’m safe inside
this lighthouse far above the tide.
Although I love, I fear the sea

The sea whose call can’t be denied
I carry out my task with pride
an acolyte who serves the sea
:D

oh bravo Ivor! Two gifts in one week, I am honored :)

You know I love lighthouses and have always thought it would be an awesome job to be the lighthouse keeper...to live that close to the sea and know her so intimately. This is a wonderful tribute to those that served in that way long ago......

thank you from my heart, my friend.
