View Full Version : Where have my Songbirds gone?

Winters mourning,
cascades at dawn
when lifes beacon
reclaims the skies

Deep in these woods
A forests heart
Awakens, from dire slumber
Once again
Greeting the sun

All that remains,
Is for wildwood creatures
To reclaim, abandoned homes

Yet no footsteps come
Nor dawning serenade
To fulfill natures destiny
Willows stand vacant
Air drawing no breath
In this timeless prophecy

Only in the bitter distance
Do I dare hear
What makes a forest
Silently cry
Its the tortured sound
Man made destruction
A chainsaws...
Lullaby

SoT, I was personally quite touched by this well thought out yet very sad extended personification.

Naturally, this last stanza captures the main point that I think you’re trying to make. The sardonic paradox of the last two lines (the last three words) brings the message home.

Unfortunately, you speak the truth in “Where have my Songbirds gone?”.

What else can one speak of Nature? The sad, cold....inconcievable truth.

SoT,
This is so very lovely and full of such vivid imagery!
A softly 'spoken' read...very nicely crafted!

sot, this saddens me.

i live in a superabundance of trees but they too are silent now, the courting over, mating done. the pleasure i spent listening is now spent looking - for the many different styled and structured nests that fill the trees with youngbloods, and the brilliant colored and lovely patterned egg shells that the mother birds instinctively scatter far form their nests to bluff and lure predators from the babies. and the fancy feathers of the proud papas, thoughtlessly discarded now that the amorous deed is done!

june is bird month! keep your eyes open; i'm sure your friends will return.
