Marsden Bay
The great rock stack stands sentinel
above the ever restless sea
.here lesser terns in colonies
nest safely far above the swell.
They feed their nestlings very well
with what they harvest from the sea
The fledglings learn to ride the breeze
As near as anyone can tell
the birds were here before man came
and will be here when man has gone
They’ll be the winners in this game
when all is said and all is done
The colonies will be the same
if only they are left alone.

:D :o
That's really good. Very vivid and I particularly like
"the birds were here before man came
and will be here when man has gone".

Ivor, so much of your poetry is regional. One can only surmise how much pride you have to want to share your part of the world with the rest of us.
Sights like this can be found elsewhere, but you make it personal.
The great rock stack stands sentinel
above the ever restless sea
.here lesser terns in colonies

The alliterative first line is an eye catcher for me, of course.
I really like the sentiment and sort of admonishment in the last four lines.
Nicely penned.
