Eucalyptus Leaves
I walk up the road. Stickiness of the noon sunshine rests on the back of my neck. I take in the sweet aroma of the autumnday. The strap on my shoe feels a little tight and I bend down to massage my ankle; as I do, I am struck by the beauty of two eucalyptus leaves that lay gracefully upon the ground. Carried by the hand of the wind, they find themselves caressing one another. The fall colors bleed into one another like the spotted brush of watercolor. The bend of the leaf reminds me of a woman arching towards ecstasy. Turned upside down, it reminds me of a wide rimmed bowl left on the garden table, with nothing better to do, than to collect the mourning dew. Two leafs lay side by side, like a woman resting her head upon the chest of her partner. You can almost imagine the gracefulness of her toe resting upon the ground as her heel sways slowly back and forth. Passing the time, relaxing, she closes her eyes. Across the lake, I notice the reflection, a mirage of rippling eucalyptus trees with the sky above. The lillies sit upon the slow movement of the lake. I close my eyes softly. I see shoots of light reflecting off my eyelashes forming a rainbow in front of me. A shadow soon rocks back and forth in the air and lands. As I look down, I see, one eucalyptus leaf falling into the arms of another.
