Early morning, late October,
the complaint of the night owl
grows less insistent in the woods.

The autumn leaf piles are deeper,
splashes of red, streaks of yellow
mingle with the common brown.

The wind rustles the fallen leaves,
whispers of summer's secrets left behind,
swirl like memories between the trees.

thank you my friends, autumn is a great time when you live in the woods, lol except for raking leaves. :)

I’m in total agreement with naturalist. The quietude of summer’s fading mingled with the “secrets” it takes with it is a wonderful description.

It’s just so damn obvious that you love writing poetry, Mac. It’s exhibited in everything you write.
