Meta, for me the operative word in this piece is “but”. It introduces the paradox. If “and” was used, it would make no sense. Spring is a time of renewal. What would be wrong with donning new, “pretty” clothing?

But the point is that nature is natural, no? Beauty lies in what something or someone is, not a person’s or a thing’s appearance.

Beauty is not “only skin deep” no matter what the adage says. It’s much deeper than that.
