Spring in Winter
an early morning song
amidst a melting December landscape
a winter Carolina (in Pennsylvania)
out of season, but welcomed
a harbinger of life to come
of another season’s pulse
an unbounded cycle continues
brought to me on wings

with a quickening pulse
blood surging through dendritic channels
an awareness arises
that tomorrow will come
a new season
a slow explosion of vivid colors
a sequential irruption of song
the promise of life anew

I have not exposed much of my writing to this point, but am keenly interested in any impressions or critical reviews. My writing may come from a slightly different perspective or background than others (I may be entirely wrong) - My background is in wildlife biology with very little writing background. Most of my poetry is unstructured to this point.

I think that this is lovely... I'm not a wildlife biologist, but nature teaches me more than any books...

Welcome to Arcanum

i'm no wildlife biologist either
but the cycle in your song
makes me want to say
thank the lucky stars man hasn't been able to extinct that
yet

probably not the response you imagined
but then, neither did i till i read your poem
and remarks

enjoyed and welcome

Meta, I couldn't agree more with the following

"...nature teaches me more than any books.."

I'm glad nature can't write! and thank you for the compliment. I'm looking forward to my stay here.

e-piph - Anybody tries to extinct that, they had best be prepared to extinct my butt first! Thank you.
