.
Quiet pond ripples
algae and twigs
across its surface
With shiny green head
and wings spread,
using its bottom
as a break,
it lands
tearing waves
into the surface
More descend minutes later
like bickering fish wives
shoving their rumps
into the air, ducking,
as if to mock me and
the silence they broke.

I enjoyed this very much. A quiet, reflective piece - but the humor at the end put a smile on my face. :) Nice work!

But ducks are birds, right?
No, shane, I agree. They’re only nominally birds. I can’t imagine ducks contributing much to a “quiet, reflective” moment, as Reneé referred to it. Fishwife is definitely a good description.

This is a great allusion to what the wake looks like when a duck lands in the water. :)

I liked this. 'The ruination of a peaceful moment' Sad, but true.

Thank you all for reading and commenting, I must admit to being a little surprised to get so much good response for this one. :)
