From the bright sunlight
I cross the threshold
Into a dapple world

Gone is the swish of tall grass
Replaced by the delicate crunch
Of last season’s leaves

The air is cooler
Soft and caressing
A whisper on my skin

I breathe in deeply
Smell the dank earth
Rich with life

Crossing a small stream
I cup the cold, clear water
And taste true purity

The stress of day-to-day vanishes
A gentle peace settles
I am content

A walk in the woods
Has a way of bringing me
Back to myself.

wikidkiti, only one time exists in our lives and that time is “now”.

You can remember what happened in the past, but you can’t do anything to change it.

You can plan for the future, but you won’t know if your plans are carried out until the future becomes “now”. Someone described this to me by telling me that the past and the future don’t exist.

You’re so right about the “dapple world”. In that world, people are too busy planning and/or reviewing. John Lennon once wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy doing other things.”

A walk in the woods brings you “back to yourself” where you can pay attention to “now”.

This image is a very vivid metaphor. In fact, I would say it’s almost more metonymic than metaphorical.

“In The Woods” is a wonderfully vivid allegory. :)
