Into Winter
winter wages a war
against the lingering summer
as the days dawn crisp
and frosty
with a bite in the air
that promises snowfalls to come
and autumn thunder lingers
in the afternoon
bringing blessed relief
of a darkened sky
a warm rug wrapped
around the mountains

We are just emerging from winter into spring later than usual and seemingly overnight transforming bare branches to the green dress of spring. Dreaming of a warm summer to come Never last long enough here to get sick of the heat

and here, we're banging on summer's door,
that hot and humid sticky store
of misery.
your winter flees
too quickly,
hawk.

Hi, TH, how ya been?
I didn’t know that you had snow down under. If everything’s opposite of what it is in the US, does it snow more on the bottom of the mountain? Just thought I’d ask. :D
Your poetry is filled with the things that make it come alive. For me, one of the things that animates poetry is alliteration. You’ve included a good deal of that in “Into Winter”.
Keep warm!
To friendship,
Michael

Hawk, as always you have made me stop to think.
For myself I like the thought.
'the days dawn crisp
and frosty
with a bite in the air'
I have always enjoyed those first tentative little frosty mornings, the outposts of the coming winter, but hate the thought of snow.

Love your use of language, Kimberley, especially that final bit of imagery. Nice work.
Phil :)
I'll second Phil's comments, imagery is superb. enjoyed.

Michael, :P
Thank you everyone :)
I love the beginning of winter... when the weather starts to change, and the sky seems so close to the ground...

and autumn thunder lingers
in the afternoon
bringing blessed relief
of a darkened sky
enter the white lady of insermountable dreams
casts knowledge from her backwards world
shifting the axis to ammend our disposition
allowing a new perception
i love winter
