[monkey boy]

up when her rich browns are gray
as the gray grass in the gray light,
she does not wait for the sun;
a sun of her own making
must be made this day
from the dew on the grass,
from the bugs in the garden,
and the meal in her dish.
round she runs, a soft clock
clucking as fire climbs sky,
as treasure gathers and feathers fly.
the waxing light shows off
the day's new paint
as she decants her hidden forge
in the christmas wreath,
top shelf in the garage,
orange sun in shelled secret.

a rural painting, mb. the transition from the dull gray morning to the bright and colorful day is striking, the image of a hen nested in an old christmas wreath touching. :)

this reminds me of something very beautiful that i once saw. it was late evening, sun set to almost dark. out in the yard was a tree (it must have been winter, i recall the tree had no leaves, just bare branches) full of chickens going round and round in kind of a frenzied dance, i suppose trying to find a favorite branch.

i adore your nature poems. :)

well done, enjoyed the rich imagery. I had a pet rooster once, he was a Roundhouse Red and followed me around almost everywhere, lol I think he thought he was really a dog and not a chicken.
