how many have passed you by
avoiding a puddle in the pasture
when you are truely a world
within worlds
you come to visit in the fragile spring
teeming with life sacred and strange
born of hard winter rain
burned by the sun
freshwater shrimp tiny and majestic
sail through your noble melange
brilliant colors brought to bear
on the dung of another dimension
men sought to build a power plant
but a puddle in the pasture
thwarted their greedy plan
this rare and beautiful vernal pool

Thanks, you guys. It's a true story. Just after the infamous "energy shortage" in California, many questionable "corporations invaded in an attempt to aquire eminent domain for power plants to be built without environmental reports, etc. The 92 acre pasture next to our farm was singled out, so we did some homework. After speaking with many people, including those who lived near other plants this company had built, we found out that the vibrations from them killed off plant life for over a mile around them, among other terrible effects.
We notified the right people about the pool, because they are protected (only found in a few places on earth) and stopped the carpetbaggers...Yeah!
wonder if they have any "save the puddle" tee shirts, although it didn't work 100% for the whales, it did raise awareness of their plight.

Monkey Boy! Italian roast through the nose...heh...
Mac: Hmm...Marketing plans in the works. I knew a gardener who used to wear a T-shirt that said "dirt first".
These small victories may not seem like much against the overwhelming odds, but at least we can rest assured that resistance is NOT futile.

imagine all that power from a pool - an awesome thought!
it's the pasture i fear in the end to be brought
to no good thing - done!
by heartless stirrings.
and mindless
machines.
(i just finished watching "the land of the falling lakes", nature, pbs. between that and the thoughts and feelings this poem evokes, well, with my signature brevity of form, i'm at a loss for those special words to structure a reply. ah, but then you have really said it pretty much all, inyan. and so very well :) )

Thank you, Laleesh. I'm a fan of brevity, also. Every word is special...
