rosedown lows down a well trod lane
caped in a crepe of acacia
and myrtle
plantasia - antebellum style
crouched
at the end of what seems like a mile
of rheumatic old oak
gnarly arched and choked in moss,
history piled
two stories high
embossed on precious vellum.

thanks, mac and norman. can you believe i crossed the mighty mississippi river mere miles from where it empities out into the gulf of mexico on a little old ferry to see this plantation home? my six year old grandson kept calling the ferry a submarine!!! needless to say, i took the long way back - by interstate!
i've been to see the house many times back in the day. it had always looked so stately and majestic. this time it seems to have showed its age. it seemed dull, and crouched, slumped. i think it's because the state has sealed off all the rooms behind glass, separated them from life. it is basically a curio cabinet now.

laleesh:)
the lilt of your rhyme - the timing of your moves - brings this poem in from a refined and playful space; sweetly lit with the mystery of it all.....
enjoyed

ascension, epi and piers, :), i'm so glad this poem got some readage and commentary. it's kind of special to me and "homage" to the old house as it was and is now.
it was a "star" back in the day, you know? scenes from the movie "hush, hush sweet charlotte", an old betty davis movie, were shot in the house. :)
an aging old movie star.
