Time has come around once more
When the Mother summons forth
Cold Death
Her hand, waves over the land
Sweeping away the remnants of life
Left by Autumns beautiful, quiet departure

Cold death comes to this place
Creating a noisy wind blown silence
Leaving a crystal beauty
Only some see as a creators magnificence
The land becomes stark, bare, gray, frozen,
It is gripped in Cold Death's grasp

When lightness falls
From the depths of Hope drifting above
Blanketing this world of mine
In a myriad flow of pure virginity
I can see beyond this Death of Cold
I am warmed to the thought
Of Springs hibernation beneath

I prepare to make my journey into this
Place touched by Death's Cold
To leave my footprints upon its Beauty
As a sign to that which lies beneath
So it knows that I am here to witness
Its emergence
When Cold Death has departed
And the Mother Summons forth Life once again

this is so lovely, suzi. where i'm at, in south louisiana, we this very night are celebrating mardi gras, carnival. singing, dancing, parading. our feet are heartily slipping, slapping, tapping the earth in a jovial attempt to waken the spring. we party hardy down here and are among the first of the states to enjoy the season. i know it's because we're closer to the equator than our more northern neighbors, but i'm sure our noise and our fabulous footfalls must help!!!!!

i thought at first you must be from the southern hemisphere and perhaps just embarking on winter, but i now see where you were going with the poem.

hold on, we're going to conjure up spring tonight!!!!

Beautifully expressed Suzi. Winter is a time of austere beauty a time to rest in preparation for the riot of springs growth. The one being necessary for the other

the balance is everywhere, as is the beauty of life, even in the coldness of the winter.
