Butterfly, insuppressible.
Feathers flittering, purpose questionable.
Beauty, silent, save the sound of chroma,
exploding splits and shivers.

All leave us lonely, heartfelt confusion.
Questions rush in, “Have we forgotten?
Are we no less fragile, frivolous,
light and airy? Are we still unsteady?”

Again, left behind empty spaces,
holes filled once by hands, arms.
Substance for someone breathes hallow,
silent, reticent, soundless, speechless.

To friendship,
Michael

“A nation which has forgotten the quality of courage which in the past has been brought to public life is not as likely to insist upon or regard that quality in its chosen leaders today--and in fact we have forgotten.” – Euripides

Somewhat enigmatic Michael made me think on the transience of what we accept as reality. Perhaps the eastern sages are correct and all is illusion each creating thier own version of the universe ivor

Thanks for responding, Piers.

We are gliding through the slick yet tortuous tube of evolution and are not yet that much less fragile than the least fragile among us. Judging from the debris of scattered limbs, we can only hope that this isn’t where evolution intended to abandon us. This is a frightening bell curve whose peak is much more conical than it should be. Gliding…….

"are not yet that much less fragile than the least fragile among us."

I think we forget or simply overlook this in our arrogance....time will in out and give us a sharp reminder I fear. Your poem spoke wisdom, but then, they always do ;)
