Preservation order.

A gnarled and weathered old oak tree.
Which stands alone in majesty,
a tall tree of impressive girth.
It’s roots firm anchored in the earth.

It has provided sanctuary
for lesser creatures constantly.
The tree is now protected by
an order issued from on high.

This tree must always be preserved.
An order which must be observed
by anyone and everyone.
Who thinks it would be better gone.

I would advise them not to try
the penalties would be too high.
This tree has stood for centuries
slowly recording histories

Of the ambitious little men
who only rise to fall again.
The old oak tree still proud and tall
has quietly outlived them all

and will no doubt outlive us too.
if left alone and in my view.
Unusually the powers that be.
have got it right: So leave it be.

Like Bob Marley said, Big Tree, Small Axe! Seems that little men get some sort of kick out of destroying something bigger and far more impressive than themselves. Sometimes though they lose!

Here here. I remember the constant battle against some of the lumber companies when I was working with the forestry commision briefly.
