The dirt thumps
as
it graces your fingers
it's soul thick in pride
under your nails lingers
it is the food of our nation
filled with worms and the creation
of an earthbound radio station
spitting a record scratching
biding of a time once past
where we all sowed seeds
that fed our families
yes,
farming has a hip hop
heart beat
it speaks in rhyme
to the fine cracked hands
the back breaking tilling of lands
the gratitude of sweat pouring
earned through the glands
reaping a harvest, and survival
that couldn't be more
melodically grand
yes,
sustainability
speaks of sacrifice and an incredibly
humbling poverty
it is repetitive in it's crooning
in order to re-establish our modesty
and it is embedded in our bones
even though most
no longer associate the ground
with the things they eat

This lack of a connection someday
must make the children cry
hard enough to pry open their eyes
and accept the need for change
or the eternal DJ will die

And we will be left in a soundless wasteland
Subdued with synthetic happiness, when paradise was what we had.
Truth will only grow in the water of open minds
it is time,
my god
it is time.
