Why can't I get into some forums?
Arcanum Cafe is generally a proponent of free speech online. But we do recognize that some content and discussions (i.e. horror, erotica, etc.) can sometimes be a bit beyond what is considered suitable for viewing to minors and those offended by certain types of literature/discussion. Thus we have set aside a forum called "Back Bar" that is limited access to help keep this content a bit more out of reach to those individuals that would be offended or shouldn't have access to such things. Other forums are reserved for staff only for the purposes of running this site and thus off limits to regular members.
What does "specials" mean or entail?
"Specials" means you have to meet some basic requirements and then be given special clearance by the AC webmaster or other key staffers to even enter, use and contribute to this area. We do not use passwords for these areas, which can be easily passed around to others. Instead upon approval we manually give your account the necessary permission to access that area by using your usual username and password just like you would if posting.
Please note:
This doesn't mean any and all content is suitable for posting even in these forums; certain restrictions are placed even on the Back Bar. See any announcement set for that specific forum on what's not allowed or in the email notice about receiving approval.
Requirements (Back Bar)
The below are the basic minimum criteria that you first have to have met before being considered for permission to use the Back Bar forum.
You must:
- Be 18 years old or over.
- Be a registered user of AC's forums for at least one month.
- Have at least 30 posts in AC's forums.
The number of posts you have is listed on your posts as well as your profile.
The last two greatly help the webmaster & Back Bar moderator(s) to be relatively familiar with you before giving access. Arcanum Cafe does however reserve the right to deny any user access at our sole discretion, regardless of supposedly meeting the requirements and requesting access to this area.
Request Access (Back Bar)
To request Back Bar access:
- Make sure you are logged into our forums. Visit the Edit Options page in the User CP area. Fill in the necessary info in the 'Full Real Name' and 'Date of Birth' fields. Read the 'Back Bar Request Agreement' portion at the bottom and if necessary the Terms of Service. Then select the applicable answer. (If you're not applying for BB access, then leave it set to 'N/A').
Note: The info provided to us in these profile fields is completely private, except your date of birth. For date of birth you may opt to hide or display your age and date of birth by selecting the option you feel most comfortable with in the Edit Options section. Your real name and answer to the Back Bar Request Agreement will not be displayed publicly on your profile page, nor be available to anyone other than forum administrators & moderators. AC will not share, sell or distribute this information to anyone other than our staff unless required by law. Not entering this info will result in denial of your request. Removal of this info may result in the rescinding of your already approved BB access.
- Visit the Group Memberships page in the User CP area. There you will find a box showing the group(s) available that you can join. On the Back Bar Members listing, click the 'Join Group' link. On the following page you can submit a 'reason' for the request if you want, but it isn't required at all and may be skipped. Click the 'Submit Request' button and that's it.
- Please be patient and wait. Requests are moderated and the process takes a bit of time on our end to reach a decision. Someone should email you personally to notify you once you've been approved or denied. Generally give us a week.
If you don't receive an email after a week, please check back on the Group Memberships page. If it displays a box with "You are a member of these groups" and lists Back Bar then you've been approved. If you see a 'Join Group' link in reference to Back Bar Members on the groups you can join then your request was denied. As for the email you were supposed to be sent, either someone forgot to email you or it was sent but was bounced back to us, got filtered out somewhere or merely got dropped/lost in delivery. If your request is still pending after a week then feel free to private message or email a forum administrator or the Back Bar moderator(s) to remind them.
