Victim of Society
The man that walked down a city street,
had a visage of despair.
He inquired, "Why isn't there, in this vast land,
any one person who seems to care?
For so long have I wandered,
longed for some kind person to meet.
But when a person sees the condition of my clothing,
he crosses to the other side of the street.
He doesn't care how his actions cut,
and the pain travels inside.
But his words are not forgotten,
and on the street I hide.'
A tear ran down his grizzled cheek,
as he started walking away.
One day before I die. .
someone will beg me to stay."

Much truth in this. If you look like a social misfit, you are treated like one. I think fear, more than some false feeling of superiority, is the cause for unkind behavior like this as portrayed in the poem. In society at large it is indifference----hello tea party.
