never knowing how long

or short, one or more may last

sometimes we miss them

too busy to pause

too busy to look

and enjoy a moment

the analog mechanism

rhythmically ticking

under crystalline glass

but that’s all in the past

time no longer ticks

and it is now gone

in a luminous flash

yes, i remember when timepieces used to tick--- remember watching watching the old pendulum clock at age 13 and starting to realize the ticking off of moments...

with its crackled sound, and dated zeal...

is this a feature film... or a matinee,
or just a one-line act, at the cabaret...
is it a ten-cent dance, at the music hall,
or a captured audience, at the curtain call...

time and life and memories flash,
it ticks and slips and quips the brash...
it chimes and rhymes and mimes the bliss,
as we walk along that road... to the great abyss...
