Met my mortality today - Arcanum Cafe

I had a scan done last week because my last blood test showed I have low platelets. The scan finds I have an enlarged spleen and liver. I looked it up and this condition has many causes such as cancer, infection, clots, and a multitude of other unpleasant things. I have to go back soon for more tests. I have not yet absorbed this news.

Certainly, we can pass in any moment from a million different things, from aneurysms, car crashes, and space junk. But this news made me think about my mortality like never before. My main concern is the animals and people who depend on me. People can carry on, so my cats worry me the most. Who will take care of them? I have to get my affairs prepared.

My fear of death is not death itself; its the uncertainty of the process. I don't know if I have any say in all this. I have experienced some paranormal activity through the years. So, who knows?

Kat... did they test you for mononucleosis? That virus can cause both your spleen and liver to enlarge. Whatever it is, I hope it's not serious. Please take care of yourself and keep us posted as to how you're doing. Wishing you well!

It'd be nice if your enlarged bits were caused by something pleasant - but you'd probably be the first! Hope it's something that can be sorted quickly though, and that you get back to good health soon - and as for your responsibilities; care for more rather than less!

I have an appointment to see a specialist. I have to try to not think about it. It can be nothing.

Well, the two specialists say they can't find anything really wrong. But they want to do another MRI because they saw a shadow on my liver. I go in next week for that. Thanks for asking, Shannon

Kat, I'm sending you positive vibes along with the hope this turns out to be a scare. I have faced my own mortality more than once in the last 10 years and I can assure you the will to live is beyond belief.

Well, I finally have some answers. It's all a slow process, getting appointments for tests and meeting with specialists does not happen quickly.

I had a second MRI and they cannot find anything overtly wrong. They say I has some cysts on my liver and kidney, but many people do and it does not cause any problems. My platelet level has improved some, but it's still low. The doctors have no answers. But it is not causing any bleeding problems, so they are not very concerned. They tell me my iron level is low, so I should take a supplement.

These things are a scare, as well as a wakeup call. We run around, doing this and that, then everything can come to an end very quickly. Thank all of you for following this thread.
